El derecho japonés Hisashi Iwakuma lanzó un juego sin hit ni carrera por los Marineros contra los Orioles el miércoles.
En la victoria de Seattle por 3-0, Iwakuma ponchó a siete bateadores y dio tres bases por bolas para lograr su cuarto triunfo de la temporada.
El no-hitter fue el quinto en la historia de los Marineros y el primero de Seattle desde que el venezolano Félix Hernández tiró un juego perfecto en agosto del 2012. Iwakuma se convierte en el segundo pitcher japonés en tirar un sin hit en Grandes Ligas. Hideo Nomo lo hizo dos veces, en 1995 y el 2001.
SEATTLE — Hisashi Iwakuma tossed the fifth no-hitter in Mariners history in a 3-0 victory over the Orioles on Wednesday, becoming the second Japanese pitcher (Hideo Nomo was the first) in Major League history to throw a no-hitter.
It’s the first American League no-hitter since Aug. 15, 2012, when Mariners ace Felix Hernandez threw a perfect game against the Rays. Iwakuma struck out seven and walked only three Orioles.
The Orioles’ Kevin Gausman struck out a career-high eight on a season-high 113 pitches while allowing three runs on six hits over seven innings. The loss was Gausman’s fourth in his past six starts.
