LAS VEGAS – In the last round of what was likely to be the last UFC women’s bantamweight title shot she would ever get, Miesha Tate found herself in desperate need of a takedown against champion Holly Holm.
Midway through the fifth, she got one, and soon Tate (18-5 MMA, 5-2 UFC) was glued to the back of Holm (10-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC), squeezing a rear-naked choke with everything she had until Holm lost consciousness, and with it her UFC title.
The women’s bantamweight title bout was the co-main event of today’s UFC 196 event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
