Defending US Open champion and world No. 1 Novak Djokovic is back into the fourth round for the tenth consecutive year, benefitting from the retirement of No. 61-ranked Russian Mikhail Youzhny on Day 5 in Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Djokovic led 4-2 in the first set, when Youzhny informed the chair umpire that he was unable to continue due to injury. The 34-year-old received on-court treatment following the fifth game of the set to no avail.
The pair had last met in the 2013 US Open quarterfinals, Djokovic emerging a 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 winner.
