NEW HORIZONS BECKON AS CURTAIN FALLS ON OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES PYEONGCHANG 2018
AFTER 16 DAYS OF EXHILARATING SPORTING COMPETITION, THE XXIII OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES REACHED THEIR CLIMAX WITH A SPECTACULAR CLOSING CEREMONY, AS NIGHT FELL ON PYEONGCHANG ON 25 FEBRUARY 2018.
The atmosphere was one of joy and celebration, as a packed Olympic Stadium was illuminated with the flags of the participating NOCs and the athletes took centre stage.
Just as they had done in the Opening Ceremony, the delegation of the host nation, the Republic of Korea, entered the stadium side by side with their neighbours from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, in a powerful show of unity.
It was a continuation of a theme that had been so central to what IOC President Thomas Bach chose in his farewell address to call the “Games of New Horizons.”
DESPUÉS DE 16 DÍAS DE EXCITANTE COMPETENCIA DEPORTIVA, LOS XXIII JUEGOS OLÍMPICOS DE INVIERNO LLEGARON A SU CLIMAX CON UNA CEREMONIA DE CIERRE ESPECTACULAR, CUANDO LA NOCHE CAYÓ EN PYEONGCHANG EL 25 DE FEBRERO DE 2018.
La atmósfera era de alegría y celebración, ya que un estadio olímpico abarrotado estaba iluminado con las banderas de los CON nacionales y los atletas ocupaban el centro del escenario.
Tal como lo habían hecho en la Ceremonia de Apertura, la delegación de la nación anfitriona, la República de Corea, entró en el estadio al lado de sus vecinos de la República Popular Democrática de Corea, en una poderosa demostración de unidad.
Era la continuación de un tema que había sido tan central para lo que el presidente del COI, Thomas Bach, eligió en su discurso de despedida para llamar a los «Juegos de Nuevos Horizontes».
