En la 137\u00aa Sesi\u00f3n del COI celebrada pr\u00e1cticamente hoy, el alem\u00e1n de 67 a\u00f1os recibi\u00f3 93 votos a favor y 1 en contra de los 94 votos v\u00e1lidos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thomas Bach, quien gan\u00f3 el oro con el equipo alem\u00e1n de florete de esgrima en los Juegos Ol\u00edmpicos de Montreal 1976, fue elegido presidente del COI en la Sesi\u00f3n del COI en 2013 en Buenos Aires para un primer mandato de ocho a\u00f1os. Este per\u00edodo terminar\u00e1 el d\u00eda de clausura de los Juegos Ol\u00edmpicos de Tokio 2020 el 8 de agosto de este a\u00f1o, seg\u00fan lo decidido por la Junta Ejecutiva del COI. Su segundo mandato como presidente del COI comenzar\u00e1 inmediatamente despu\u00e9s y concluir\u00e1 en 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMuchas gracias desde el fondo de mi coraz\u00f3n por este abrumador voto de confianza. Espero poder contar con su continua dedicaci\u00f3n, apoyo y amistad tambi\u00e9n durante estos cuatro a\u00f1os m\u00e1s \u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Como atleta, Thomas Bach fue un esgrimista de clase mundial, gan\u00f3 la medalla de oro ol\u00edmpica, pero tambi\u00e9n dos medallas de oro con el equipo alem\u00e1n de florete de esgrima en los Campeonatos del Mundo en Montreal en 1976 y en Buenos Aires en 1977. Fue miembro fundador de la Comisi\u00f3n de Atletas del COI en 1981, en la que permaneci\u00f3 hasta 1988. At the 137<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;IOC Session held virtually today, the 67-year-old German received 93 yes and 1 no votes from the 94 valid votes.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Thomas Bach, who won gold in with the German foil fencing team at the Olympic Games Montreal 1976, was elected as IOC President at the IOC Session in 2013 in Buenos Aires for a first eight-year term. This term will finish on the closing day of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 on 8 August this year, as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.olympic.org\/news\/thomas-bach-to-stand-unopposed-for-ioc-presidency\">decided by the IOC Executive Board<\/a>. His second term as IOC President will start immediately after, and will conclude in 2025.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThank you very much from the bottom of my heart for this overwhelming vote of confidence and trust. For me, this is even more overwhelming considering the many reforms and the many difficult decisions we had to take, which affected all of us,\u201d said President Bach after the election. \u201cYou know that this touches me deeply. It also makes me humble. When you elected me for the first time as your President in 2013 in Buenos Aires, I said that I wanted to lead the IOC according to my campaign motto \u2018Unity in diversity\u2019 and be a President for all of you and for all our stakeholders. This commitment is also true for my second and last term. My door, my ears and my heart remain open for each and every one of you. I hope that I can count on your continued dedication, support and friendship also during these four more years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As an athlete, Thomas Bach was a world-class fencer, winning the Olympic gold medal, but also two gold medals with the German foil fencing team at the World Championships in Montreal in 1976 and in Buenos Aires in 1977. He was a founding member of the IOC Athletes\u2019 Commission in 1981, on which he remained until 1988. In 1991, he became an IOC Member and sat on the IOC Executive Board between 1996 and 2013.
