La campeona individual femenina de 2019, Simona Halep, ha anunciado que se ha retirado del campeonato de este a\u00f1o por una lesi\u00f3n en la pantorrilla.
Halep se retir\u00f3 de un partido de segunda ronda contra la alemana Angelique Kerber en el evento de cancha de arcilla de la WTA en Roma a mediados de mayo y no ha competido desde entonces. Posteriormente se vio obligada a perderse Roland-Garros, el segundo Grand Slam de la temporada.
\u00abEs con gran tristeza que anuncio mi retiro del Campeonato porque mi lesi\u00f3n en la pantorrilla no se ha recuperado por completo\u00bb, dijo la jugadora de 29 a\u00f1os.
\u00abDi todo lo que ten\u00eda para estar listo para jugar en Wimbledon y despu\u00e9s de tener recuerdos tan especiales de hace dos a\u00f1os, estaba emocionada y honrada de dar un paso m\u00e1s en estas hermosas canchas como campe\u00f3na defensora.
\u201cDesafortunadamente, mi cuerpo no cooper\u00f3 y tendr\u00e9 que guardar ese sentimiento para el pr\u00f3ximo a\u00f1o.
\u201cHonestamente puedo decir que estoy muy triste y molesta por tener que tomar esta decisi\u00f3n. Este per\u00edodo ha sido dif\u00edcil, pero perderse los dos \u00faltimos grandes lo ha hecho a\u00fan m\u00e1s desafiante mental y f\u00edsicamente.
\u201cVeremos qu\u00e9 nos depara el futuro, pero espero que me convierta en una persona y una atleta m\u00e1s fuerte.

The 2019 Ladies\u2019 Singles Champion Simona Halep<\/a> has announced she has withdrawn from this year’s Championships with a calf injury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Halep retired from a second round match against Germany\u2019s Angelique Kerber<\/a> at the WTA clay court event in Rome in mid-May and hasn\u2019t competed since. She was subsequently forced to miss Roland-Garros, the second Grand Slam of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is with great sadness that I\u2019m announcing my withdrawal from The Championships as my calf injury has not fully recovered,\u201d the 29-year-old said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abI gave it everything I had in order to be ready to play Wimbledon and after having such special memories from two years ago, I was excited and honoured to step back on these beautiful courts as defending champion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUnfortunately, my body didn\u2019t cooperate and I\u2019ll have to save that feeling for next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI can honestly say that I’m really down and upset about having to take this decision. This period has been difficult but to miss the last two majors has made it even more challenging mentally and physically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will see what the future holds but I’m hoping it will make me a stronger person and athlete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThank you to everyone at Wimbledon for your understanding and support.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The draws for the men’s and ladies’ singles take place at the All England Club at 10am BST on Friday June 25.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
