Environmental Medicine\u201d, del BMJ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expertos de la Universidad italiana de Insubria (en Varese) analizaron la exposici\u00f3n a largo plazo a&nbsp;<strong>agentes contaminantes y patrones de infecci\u00f3n de covid-19<\/strong>&nbsp;desde el inicio de la pandemia hasta marzo de 2021 entre los residentes de Varese, en la regi\u00f3n de Lombard\u00eda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Revelaron que solo un 3,5 % de la poblaci\u00f3n de esa regi\u00f3n estaba totalmente vacunada para finales de marzo de 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En el estudio se estimaron niveles promedio anuales y por temporada de cinco contaminantes a\u00e9reos para 2018 para una \u00e1rea de m\u00e1s de 40 kil\u00f3metros: part\u00edculas PM2.5, PM10, di\u00f3xido de nitr\u00f3geno (NO2), \u00f3xido n\u00edtrico y ozono.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tras evaluar factores como la edad, g\u00e9nero, y el hecho de residir en hogares de mayores, adem\u00e1s de otras condiciones a largo plazo, los niveles de&nbsp;<strong>PM2.5 y PM10<\/strong>&nbsp;fueron significativamente asociados con un incremento en la tasa de infecciones de covid-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cada incremento de 1 microgramo por metro c\u00fabico de la exposici\u00f3n a largo plazo con PM2.5 se asoci\u00f3 con&nbsp;<strong>un aumento del 5 % en el n\u00famero de nuevos casos<\/strong>&nbsp;de infecciones de covid-19, equivalente a 294 casos por cada 100.000 personas al a\u00f1o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mayor incidencia en mayores de 55 a\u00f1os<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>El equipo investigador observ\u00f3 adem\u00e1s que se identificaron<strong>&nbsp;efectos m\u00e1s fuertes de agentes contaminantes<\/strong>&nbsp;sobre las tasas de infecciones por coronavirus entre personas de 55 a 64 a\u00f1os y de 65 a 74.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tambi\u00e9n alertaron de que este es un estudio observacional con lo que no se pueden establecer causas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cNuestros hallazgos proporcionan las primeras evidencias emp\u00edricas s\u00f3lidas para el camino de las hip\u00f3tesis que vinculan la exposici\u00f3n a largo plazo de la poluci\u00f3n a\u00e9rea con la incidencia de covid-19, y merecen una futura generalizaci\u00f3n en contextos diferentes\u201d, concluyen.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Los expertos consideran que \u201clos esfuerzos de los gobiernos por reducir m\u00e1s los niveles de contaminaci\u00f3n del aire pueden ayudar a mitigar el peso que supone la covid-19 en la sanidad p\u00fablica\u201d.
