Ahora est\u00e1 en camino a su \u00f3rbita correcta, 36.000 km sobre el ecuador.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MTG-I1 garantizar\u00e1 la continuidad de los datos para el pron\u00f3stico del tiempo desde la \u00f3rbita geoestacionaria durante los pr\u00f3ximos 20 a\u00f1os y mejorar\u00e1 significativamente las capacidades actuales de generaci\u00f3n de im\u00e1genes y la generaci\u00f3n de im\u00e1genes de rayos casi en tiempo real, una nueva capacidad para los sat\u00e9lites meteorol\u00f3gicos europeos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMeteosat Third Generation es una historia de \u00e9xito europea. El prop\u00f3sito de esta inversi\u00f3n de miles de millones de euros es proporcionar a los servicios meteorol\u00f3gicos una cantidad mucho mayor de informaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s precisa que les ayudar\u00e1 a proteger vidas, propiedades e infraestructuras. La estaci\u00f3n terrestre de Malindi en Kenia recibi\u00f3 la se\u00f1al de MTG-I1, lo que indica que el sat\u00e9lite goza de buena salud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La tecnolog\u00eda satelital innovadora, como la capacidad del sat\u00e9lite MTG-I para capturar observaciones de rayos como precursores de condiciones meteorol\u00f3gicas severas, ayuda a la OMM a lograr el Plan de Acci\u00f3n de Alertas Tempranas para Todos de la ONU presentado en la COP27. La ESA es responsable del desarrollo y adquisici\u00f3n de los seis sat\u00e9lites MTG. EUMETSAT define los requisitos del sistema, establece los sistemas terrestres, adquiere los servicios de lanzamiento, opera los sat\u00e9lites y pone los datos a disposici\u00f3n de los usuarios. It is now on its way to its correct orbit, 36,000km above the Equator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MTG-I1 will ensure the continuity of data for weather forecasting from geostationary orbit for the next 20 years and significantly enhances the current imager capabilities and near real-time lightning imaging \u2013 a new capability for European weather satellites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMeteosat Third Generation is a European success story. The purpose of this multi-billion-euro investment is to provide meteorological services with a vastly increased amount of more precise information which will help them protect lives, property and infrastructure. This system will, literally, save lives,\u201d said Phil Evans, Director General at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eumetsat.int\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EUMETSAT<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The MTG-I satellites carry two new instruments, a Flexible Combined Imager and Europe\u2019s first Lightning Imager, to deliver high-quality data for better short-term weather forecasting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The innovative&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.esa.int\/Applications\/Observing_the_Earth\/Meteorological_missions\/meteosat_third_generation\/Lightning_Imager\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lightning Imager<\/a>&nbsp;will be able to capture individual lightning events in the sky, whether day or night. This is the first time a geostationary weather satellite can detect lightning across Europe, Africa and the surrounding waters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ane4bf-datap1.s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com\/wmocms\/s3fs-public\/ckeditor\/files\/MicrosoftTeams-image_0.png?w=640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Weather Forecasting Enters New Era\" title=\"Weather Forecasting Enters New Era\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.esa.int\/Applications\/Observing_the_Earth\/Meteorological_missions\/meteosat_third_generation\/Flexible_Combined_Imager\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Flexible Combined Imager<\/a>&nbsp;will utilise two scanning services to build a picture of fast-evolving events. The imager will scan the entire Earth disc in just 10 minutes through its full disc scanning service. The imager will scan Europe and northern Africa every 2.5 minutes through the rapid scanning service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMTG was developed thanks to the expertise of ESA, EUMETSAT and a highly competitive European space industry. With the satellite\u2019s innovative design and its novel \u2018lightning catcher\u2019, MTG will push European weather forecasting into the future\u201d added Simonetta Cheli, Director of Earth Observation Programmes at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.esa.int\/Applications\/Observing_the_Earth\/Meteorological_missions\/meteosat_third_generation\/A_new_era_of_weather_forecasting_begins\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">European Space Agency (ESA).<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The satellite was launched at 21:30 CET on 13 December and separated from the rocket 34 minutes later. The Malindi ground station in Kenya received the signal from MTG-I1, indicating the satellite is in good health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Innovative satellite technology like the MTG-I satellite\u2019s ability to capture lightning observations as a precursor of severe weather supports WMO in achieving the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/public.wmo.int\/en\/earlywarningsforall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UN\u2019s Early Warnings for All Action Plan<\/a>&nbsp;unveiled at COP27.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/public.wmo.int\/en\/programmes\/wmo-space-programme\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WMO works with space agencies<\/a>&nbsp;to coordinate the planning of meteorological and environmental satellite missions vital for weather forecasts, life-saving early warning services, and monitoring climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The MTG mission is a cooperation between EUMETSAT and ESA. ESA is responsible for developing and procuring the six MTG satellites. EUMETSAT defines the system requirements, sets the ground systems, procures the launch services, operates the satellites, and makes the data available to users.
