La Selecci\u00f3n Colombia Masculina se alz\u00f3 con la victoria ante Uzbekist\u00e1n<\/strong> este mi\u00e9rcoles 17 de junio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El combinado nacional mostr\u00f3 car\u00e1cter, intensidad y efectividad para quedarse con el triunfo<\/strong> gracias a las anotaciones de Daniel Mu\u00f1oz, Luis D\u00edaz y Jaminton Campaz, quienes fueron los protagonistas<\/strong> en el marcador para el equipo dirigido por el profesor N\u00e9stor Lorenzo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Posterior al encuentro, el director t\u00e9cnico de la Selecci\u00f3n Colombia ofreci\u00f3 la conferencia de prensa habitual a los medios de comunicaci\u00f3n<\/strong> presentes en el estadio Azteca de la Ciudad de M\u00e9xico:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conferencia de prensa (espa\u00f1ol)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pregunta 1: sobre el rendimiento del partido<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCreo que nos hundimos un poco en el segundo tiempo, a partir del minuto 10 m\u00e1s o menos. Y ellos tienen un juego muy directo que te obliga, te meten gente en el \u00e1rea y te obligan a estar ah\u00ed, a bajar. No es que progresen tocando.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entonces, la pelota era para afuera, centro, y rebote. Y se repet\u00eda, afuera y centro, y eso te pone inc\u00f3modo. Pero, es un equipo que trabaja muy bien eso, muy f\u00edsico, y creo que tuvimos que refrescar porque se nos ven\u00edan encima. Sin embargo, pens\u00e1bamos que de pronto en el primer tiempo podr\u00edamos haber sacado una diferencia mayor tambi\u00e9n\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pregunta 2: acerca del cambio en el posicionamiento del equipo<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLa idea era seguir con la l\u00ednea de cuatro y poner dos volantes carrileros por fuera, a G\u00f3mez y a Campaz. Pero, de pronto se hundieron demasiado. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

En el principio se hundieron demasiado y le dieron la posibilidad a ellos de llevarnos a jugar en bloque bajo. Y bueno, era lo que no quer\u00edamos porque entre esos centros y rebotes pod\u00eda llegar alguna ocasi\u00f3n\u2026que fue como lleg\u00f3\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pregunta 3: acompa\u00f1amiento de los hinchas colombianos<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo, la verdad que es una energ\u00eda hermosa. Aunque emocionalmente creo que le pes\u00f3 a algunos muchachos. Considero que de los que m\u00e1s corren, de los que mejor est\u00e1n f\u00edsicamente, hoy sufrieron el partido desde ese punto de vista. Y tiene que ver un poco con la carga emocional que genera el primer partido y el marco en el que jugamos, adem\u00e1s, con la obligaci\u00f3n de ser el protagonista y de ganar, porque todos nos daban como favoritos, lo cual a nadie le gusta, aunque ese rol lo tuvimos que asumir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creo que salimos al primer tiempo, hicimos un muy buen primer tiempo. Nos falt\u00f3 de pronto definir alguna jugada m\u00e1s con remates o con centros m\u00e1s peligrosos. Pero bueno, tuvimos un bache en el segundo tiempo donde hubo que refrescar y bueno, al final lo terminamos definiendo bien\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pregunta 4: relativo a las razones de los cambios realizados por el DT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo, creo que es una buena lectura. Pero ayer lo dijimos, que los 26 estaban a un muy buen nivel\u2026Es m\u00e1s, el cambio pod\u00eda ser otro tambi\u00e9n que hubiera entrado tambi\u00e9n de la misma manera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elegimos por caracter\u00edsticas jugadores de banda para tapar un poquito la doble presencia de bandas que tienen ellos. Con carrilero y extremo. Pero bueno, en un momento, como dije, nos metimos muy atr\u00e1s, nos hundimos mucho y ah\u00ed hab\u00eda que salir. Hab\u00eda que salir a jugar en campo de ellos como hicimos en el primer tiempo\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pregunta 5: sobre la caracter\u00edsticas en el juego de Colombia<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUna muy buena pregunta. La caracter\u00edstica del equipo es ser protagonista, jugar en campo contrario, con los laterales subidos, con el protagonismo del bal\u00f3n. Lo que pasa es que el bloque defensivo de ellos se defendi\u00f3 muy bien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nosotros de pronto no estuvimos finos en la terminaci\u00f3n. Y de pronto despu\u00e9s nos cost\u00f3. Nos empezaron a jugar con transiciones, con juego directo, nos hicieron correr para atr\u00e1sy eso nos cost\u00f3 desde lo f\u00edsico. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pero, me quedo con la Colombia que juega en campo rival y que es protagonista con el bal\u00f3n. Por eso ponemos a veces a dos n\u00fameros diez. A un James y a un Jhon  Arias\u2026.O si no, entra Juanfer, o est\u00e1 Carrascal, o est\u00e1 Campaz, que son jugadores de muy buen pie\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pregunta 6: la pr\u00f3xima fecha ante Congo y la \u00faltima frente a Portugal <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cVamos a enfrentar a un equipo muy fuerte, que hoy lo vimos, que ha hecho un gran partido contra uno de los mejores equipos del mundo. Le ha jugado de igual a igual. As\u00ed que creemos que tenemos dos partidos muy, muy importantes y muy fuertes por delante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De pronto con otras caracter\u00edsticas. Entonces la estrategia de pronto ser\u00e1 otra. Portugal tiene un estilo parecido al nuestro, de ser protagonista a partir del bal\u00f3n. Y el Congo de pronto juega m\u00e1s a transiciones, a pelotazos largos por banda, con velocidad, con salidas r\u00e1pidas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Son dos estilos diferentes, \u00bfno? Pero creo que van a ser dos partidos muy, muy dif\u00edciles para nosotros, que vamos a tener que afrontarlo con todo\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pregunta 7: las razones del gol de Uzbekist\u00e1n y aspectos a corregir <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSab\u00edamos que por banda iba a ser dif\u00edcil porque ellos paraban dos jugadores, un extremo y dos carrileros y entonces ten\u00edamos que encontrar el juego interior con Puerta, con Yonarias. Creo que lo hicieron muy bien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creo que combinamos. Algunas de ellas, por un poquito, no terminaron en jugada de gol. Hab\u00eda que tener paciencia. Creo que, como te digo, despu\u00e9s cuando nos empezaron a jugar largo y nos hac\u00edan retroceder, lo sentimos un poco f\u00edsicamente y ah\u00ed, bueno, por eso hicimos los cambios\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pregunta 8: acerca de la efectividad del equipo colombiano <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSe trabaja, se trabaja continuamente. Sobre todo ven\u00edamos a jugar a la altura y dijimos de rematar mucho al arco, de tirar centros de manera \u2018venenosa\u2019, como le decimos nosotros. Y, bueno, de pronto el exceso de posesi\u00f3n o el miedo a perder la pelota, insistimos con la posesi\u00f3n y volv\u00edamos para atr\u00e1s y llegamos a posiciones y volv\u00edamos para atr\u00e1s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toque corto, nadie terminaba la jugada. Creo que nos falt\u00f3 un poquito eso. Como te digo, en un sistema 5-4-1 como jugaron ellos, nos cerraron bien los espacios y James lo mejor que tiene son esos pases filtrados entre l\u00edneas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pero, bueno, creo que no hizo un mal partido de todas maneras. No fue el mejor porque no fue de pronto el protagonista que es siempre en los goles o en las jugadas de gol, pero no hizo un mal partido. Hasta que estuvo bien hasta los 60, 65 minutos, creo que el partido fue aceptable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En la posesi\u00f3n nos dio mucho porque \u00e9l se baja y pide la pelota, que es lo que necesitamos en algunos momentos del partido\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question 1: On the team\u2019s performance in the match<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abI think we dropped a little too deep in the second half, starting around the 10th minute. They have a very direct style of play that forces you back. They put a lot of players in the box and make you defend deep. It\u2019s not a team that progresses through short passing sequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ball would go wide, then a cross, then a second ball. The same pattern kept repeating: wide, cross, second ball. That makes things uncomfortable. But they are a team that executes that approach very well. They are very physical, and I think we needed to refresh the team because they were putting us under pressure. Even so, we felt that in the first half we could have built a bigger lead.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question 2: On the change in the team\u2019s positioning<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abThe idea was to continue with a back four and use two wide midfielders, G\u00f3mez and Campaz. But they ended up dropping too deep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the beginning, they dropped too deep and gave the opposition the chance to force us into a low block. That was exactly what we wanted to avoid because, with all those crosses and second balls, they could create scoring opportunities\u2014which is ultimately how their goal came.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question 3: On the support from Colombian fans<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abHonestly, it was an incredible source of energy. However, I think the emotional aspect affected some of the players. Some of the players who usually run the most and are physically strongest struggled from that perspective today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I believe it had a lot to do with the emotional burden of the opening match and the atmosphere in which we played, along with the expectation that we had to be the protagonists and secure the victory because everyone considered us the favorites. That\u2019s not a role anyone particularly enjoys, but it was one we had to embrace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think we had a very good first half. Perhaps we were missing one more finish, a few more shots, or more dangerous crosses. Then we went through a difficult spell in the second half, which required some fresh legs, but in the end we managed to finish the game well.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question 4: On the reasons behind the substitutions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abI think that\u2019s a fair assessment. As we said yesterday, all 26 players are at a very high level. In fact, we could have made different substitutions and the players coming in would have responded in the same way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We chose wide players because of their characteristics, aiming to neutralize the double threat they had on the flanks with both wing-backs and wingers. However, as I mentioned, at one point we dropped too deep and got pinned back. We needed to move up the field again and play in their half, just as we had done in the first half.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question 5: On Colombia\u2019s playing identity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abThat\u2019s a very good question. The identity of this team is to be proactive, to play in the opposition\u2019s half, to push the full-backs forward, and to dominate possession. The reality is that their defensive block was very well organized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps we lacked precision in the final third. Then they started to hurt us with transitions and direct play, forcing us to run back toward our own goal, and physically that became demanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still, I prefer the Colombia that plays in the opponent\u2019s half and takes the initiative with the ball. That\u2019s why we sometimes play with two number tens. We can have James and Jhon Arias together, or Juanfer can come in, or Carrascal, or Campaz. They are all players with outstanding technical quality.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question 6: On the upcoming matches against DR Congo and Portugal<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abWe are going to face a very strong team. We saw today that they played an excellent match against one of the best teams in the world and competed on equal terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We know we have two very important and very demanding matches ahead of us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They have different characteristics, so our approach may need to change. Portugal has a style similar to ours, based on controlling the game through possession and being proactive. DR Congo, on the other hand, tends to play more through transitions, long balls into wide areas, pace, and quick attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are two very different styles, but I believe both matches will be extremely difficult, and we will have to approach them with full commitment.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question 7: On Uzbekistan\u2019s goal and areas for improvement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abWe knew it would be difficult down the flanks because they positioned two players there\u2014a winger and a wing-back\u2014so we had to find solutions through the middle with Puerta and Jhon Arias. I think they did that very well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We combined effectively, and some of those moves came very close to becoming scoring chances. We needed to remain patient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I mentioned before, once they started playing long balls and forcing us to retreat, we felt the physical demands of the match, which is one of the reasons we made the substitutions.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question 8: On the team\u2019s finishing and efficiency<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abIt\u2019s something we work on continuously. We knew we were coming to play at altitude, so we talked about shooting more often and delivering dangerous crosses into the box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At times, though, our desire to maintain possession\u2014or perhaps the fear of losing the ball\u2014led us to recycle possession too much. We would reach advanced positions and then play backwards again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We relied on short passing combinations, but no one was finishing the move. I think that was something we lacked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Against a 5-4-1 system like the one they used, spaces were very limited. James\u2019 greatest strength is his ability to play penetrating passes between the lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even so, I don\u2019t think he had a bad game. It may not have been his best performance because he wasn\u2019t as decisive as he usually is in goals or goal-scoring situations, but he still had a solid match. Up until around the 60th or 65th minute, I thought his performance was quite good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He contributed a great deal in possession because he drops deeper to receive the ball, and that is exactly what we need at certain moments of the game.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n
