Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez venció a Avni Yildirim para establecer una pelea de unificación por el título mundial con el británico Billy Joe Saunders el 8 de mayo.
El mexicano Álvarez superó al retador turco Yildirim para retener sus títulos del CMB y la AMB el sábado, antes de que el promotor Eddie Hearn confirmara la próxima pelea con Saunders.
El título de la OMB del británico también estará en juego cuando la pareja se encuentre.
El lugar de la pelea aún no se ha decidido.
Álvarez, de 30 años, es un campeón mundial de cuatro divisiones que ahora cuenta con un récord de 55 victorias, una derrota y dos empates, incluidos 37 nocauts.
Mientras tanto, Saunders, de 31 años, cuenta con un récord invicto, habiendo ganado las 30 peleas profesionales, con 11 nocauts.
El cinturón de la FIB está en manos del estadounidense Caleb Plant (21-0), pero la victoria de Canelo lo acercará un paso más en su intento por convertirse en el primer campeón indiscutible de peso súper mediano en la historia del boxeo.
«Nadie lo ha hecho», dijo Álvarez. «Quiero hacer historia. Nadie lo ha hecho en las 168 [libras]».
Tras el anuncio de la pelea, Saunders dijo que estaba «listo para el rock and roll».
«Tienes que atreverte a ser grandioso y no vas a ser grandioso si no derrotas a los grandiosos», dijo Saunders.

Yildirim se retiró antes del inicio del cuarto asalto luego de ser derribado por el mexicano en el tercero en el Hard Rock Stadium de Miami.
«Quería tener una gran pelea e hice lo que tenía que hacer», dijo Álvarez.
«Necesitaba un nocaut y eso es lo que hice. No importa si son más altos, si tienen más alcance o si tienen un buen entrenador.
«Vine a hacer mi trabajo, vine aquí a ganar».
Peleando en su primera pelea desde que derrotó al británico Callum Smith en diciembre, Álvarez dominó y derribó a su oponente con una nítida combinación de izquierda a derecha.

Mexico’s Alvarez cruised past Turkish challenger Yildirim to retain his WBC and WBA titles on Saturday, before promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed the forthcoming bout with Saunders.
The Briton’s WBO title will also be on the line when the pair meet.
The venue for the fight has yet to be decided.
Alvarez, 30, is a four-division world champion who now boasts a record of 55 wins, one defeat and two draws, including 37 knockouts.
Meanwhile, 31-year-old Saunders boasts an unbeaten record, having won all 30 professional fights, with 11 knockouts.
The IBF belt is held by American Caleb Plant (21-0), but victory for Canelo will move him one step closer in his bid to become the first undisputed super-middleweight champion in boxing history.
«No-one has done it,» Alvarez said. «I want to make history. No-one has done it at 168 [pounds].»
Following the announcement of the fight, Saunders said he was «ready to rock and roll».
«You have to dare to be great and you are not going to be a great if you don’t beat the greats,» said Saunders.
Routine victory for Canelo
Yildirim retired before the start of the fourth round after being knocked down by the Mexican in the third at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium.
«I wanted to have a great fight and I did what I had to do,» said Alvarez.
«I needed a knockout and that’s what I did. It doesn’t matter if they’re taller, if they’ve got more reach, or they’ve got a good trainer.
«I came to do my job, I came here to win.»
Fighting in his first bout since beating Britain’s Callum Smith in December, Alvarez dominated and floored his opponent with a crisp left-right combination.
