Según informes de prensa en Brasil, el Toronto FC ha ofrecido un contrato de tres años y 15 millones de dólares por el delantero de River Plate, Santos Borre, según lo último de UOL Esporte, pero al parecer también se enfrentan a una dura competencia del club brasileño Palmeiras, el actual campeón de la Copa Libertadores.
Borre podría extender su estadía en el club de la primera división argentina, por supuesto, aunque el colombiano de 25 años también está interesado en mudarse a Europa.
No es la primera vez que se vincula a Borre con el Toronto FC, por lo que ha habido polémica en torno a un traspaso de mucho dinero a los Rojos. Su contrato con River Plate también finalizará en junio de 2021.
En caso de que Borre viniera a Toronto, traería un currículum del club estimado que incluye un préstamo al Villarreal mientras estaba en los libros del Atlético de Madrid. Se convirtió en profesional en Deportivo Cali en su Colombia natal y ahora tiene 46 goles en 127 partidos en todas las competiciones para Los Millonarios.
Borre, quien tiene dos partidos con la selección nacional de Colombia, le daría a Toronto otro delantero de renombre junto a Jozy Altidore. También tienen a una de las jóvenes estrellas brillantes de la liga en Ayo Akinola, además del mediocampista ofensivo Alejandro Pozuelo, el MVP de la MLS Landon Donovan 2020.
Toronto, que se dirige a su primer año con el entrenador en jefe Chris Armas, tiene un puesto de Jugador Designado abierto. Los otros dos los ocupan Altidore y Pozuelo.
