The 2015 NBA Champion Golden State Warriors have become the second team in NBA history to win 65 games in back-to-back seasons following a 128-120 home victory over the Dallas Mavericks tonight, improving to 65-7 (.903) on the campaign. The Warriors join the Chicago Bulls, who followed an NBA-record 72-win season in 1995-96 with 69 wins in 1996-97, as the only teams ever to accomplish the feat.
After winning a franchise-record 67 games in 2014-15, the 2015-16 Warriors hold the best-record in NBA history through 72 games and are the 18th team in league annals to win 65 games in a single season. Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr, who was a key reserve on both of those record-setting Bulls squads, is the first coach to win 65 games in each of his first two seasons.
Golden State’s win over Dallas was the team’s 52nd consecutive regular-season home win, extending an NBA-record streak and giving the club a 34-0 mark at Oracle Arena this season. Earlier this month, the Warriors clinched the 2015-16 Pacific Division title, claiming their first back-to-back Pacific Division crowns since 1974-75 and 1975-76. The Warriors are slated to make their fourth-straight playoff appearance for the first time since qualifying for the postseason in each of the first six years of the league’s existence (1946-47 to 1951-52).
