Angelique Kerber on Tuesday failed to silence the talk that she is having difficulty handling the pressure of playing as a Grand Slam champion; the No.3 seed allowed an opponent with only four previous victories over Top 20 players to dictate play and knock her out of the first round of a Grand Slam for only the second time in five years.

It was always going to be a tough match for the reigning Australian Open champion.

The crowd on Philippe-Chatrier Court today saw an identical dynamic play out as the big-serving 24-year-old from Wateringen in the Netherlands claimed her biggest career scalp, by a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 scoreline.
