THE ORGANISERS OF THE OLYMPIC GAMES TOKYO 2020 LAUNCHED A NATIONWIDE “GREEN” INITIATIVE AS THEY CALLED ON THE JAPANESE POPULATION TO DONATE THEIR DISCARDED OR OBSOLETE ELECTRONIC DEVICES. THE AIM IS THAT THE METAL COLLECTED FROM THESE DEVICES WILL BE USED IN THE PRODUCTION OF THE MEDALS FOR THE GAMES.
This project highlights Tokyo 2020’s commitments to engage the whole Japanese nation and to offer to everyone the opportunity to play a role in the Games’ preparations. It also responds directly to Recommendation 4 of Olympic Agenda 2020 that states sustainability be integrated into all aspects of the planning and execution of the Games.
The organising committee aims to collect as much as eight tons of metal (gold: 40 kg – silver: 4,920 kg – bronze: 2,944 kg), which after the production process will result in two tons, an amount needed to produce 5,000 Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic medals.
The initiative has already been hailed by some of the athletes who will be leading the charge for medals in Tokyo.
LOS ORGANIZADORES DE LOS JUEGOS OLÍMPICOS TOKYO 2020 LANZARON UNA INICIATIVA NACIONAL «VERDE» LLAMANDO A LA POBLACIÓN JAPONESA PARA DONAR SUS DISPOSITIVOS ELECTRÓNICOS DESCARTADOS O OBSOLETOS. EL OBJETIVO ES QUE EL METAL RECOGIDO DE ESTOS DISPOSITIVOS SEÁ UTILIZADO EN LA PRODUCCIÓN DE LAS MEDALLAS PARA LOS JUEGOS.
Este proyecto pone de relieve los compromisos de Tokio 2020 de comprometer a toda la nación japonesa y ofrecer a todos la oportunidad de jugar un papel en los preparativos de los Juegos. También responde directamente a la Recomendación 4 de la Agenda Olímpica 2020 que establece que la sostenibilidad se integrará en todos los aspectos de la planificación y ejecución de los Juegos.
El comité organizador tiene como objetivo recolectar hasta ocho toneladas de metal (oro: 40 kg – plata: 4,920 kg – bronce: 2,944 kg), que después del proceso de producción dará lugar a dos toneladas, una cantidad necesaria para producir 5.000 medallas, para los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio 2020 Y medallas paraolímpicas.
La iniciativa ya ha sido apoyada por algunos de los atletas que estarán a cargo de las medallas en Tokio.
