The Azzurri enjoyed a day to remember in Edinburgh, thanks to an impressive 3-0 victory against European champions Liverpool.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side made a strong start and took a deserved lead in the 17th minute through a sensational Lorenzo Insigne strike, which saw the Italian embark on a mazy run before sumptuously curling the ball into the far corner from just outside the penalty area.
Liverpool had little time to recover, with Arek Milik doubling the team’s lead just 11 minutes later, thanks to a fine finish from a fizzing Insigne cross.
Napoli made a trio of half-time substitutions, including Amin Younes, who needed just seven minutes to get on the scoresheet himself, pouncing on a loose ball after Insigne cut into the box and saw his curling shot parried away by Mignolet.
Both sides continued to ring the changes as the second half progressed, but that would prove to be the end of the goalscoring. Carlo Ancelotti and his charges can be very pleased with a job well done in what was a big pre-season test against the Reds in front of 65,000 fans at Murrayfield.
