La policía francesa ha abierto una investigación preliminar por sospecha de dopaje en una «pequeña parte» del equipo Arkéa-Samsic en el Tour de Francia de este año, según la agencia de noticias francesa AFP.
La fiscalía de Marsella confirmó la apertura formal de la investigación a la AFP el lunes, cuando los ciclistas y el equipo viajaron a casa después de la carrera de tres semanas, donde Tadej Pogačar le arrebató la victoria general a su compatriota esloveno Primož Roglič en la última etapa de la contrarreloj del sábado.
AFP dijo que la investigación fue abierta por el departamento de salud pública de la policía, con el fiscal Dominique Laurens, refiriéndose al «descubrimiento de muchos productos de salud, incluidos medicamentos (…) y especialmente un método que podría calificarse como dopaje».
Los investigadores apuntan a los equipos del Tour
Una nueva actualización a través de AFP dijo que dos personas fueron puestas bajo custodia preliminar o «Gardes à vue» el lunes por la mañana. Según Le Parisien, los dos eran un médico del equipo y un soigneur, y agregó que durante las búsquedas se descubrieron «100 ml de solución salina y equipo de inyección». Le Parisien también informó que Nairo Quintana y Dayer Quintana fueron interrogados.
La policía francesa registró habitaciones de hotel ocupadas por Arkéa-Samsic el miércoles pasado durante el Tour de Francia, según informes en Le Journal du Dimanche y L’Équipe.
El director del equipo Arkéa-Samsic, Emmanuel Hubert, confirmó que la búsqueda se había llevado a cabo cuando L’Équipe se puso en contacto con él, pero se negó a hacer más comentarios. El lunes por la noche, la UCI emitió el siguiente comunicado sobre la investigación:
«La UCI confirma que ha estado en comunicación con la OCLAESP y la Cycling Antidoping Foundation (CADF) como parte de las operaciones legales realizadas por las autoridades francesas al margen del Tour de Francia. La UCI da la bienvenida y apoya la acción de todos partes involucradas y tomará las medidas oportunas una vez haya tomado nota de la información obtenida por las autoridades legales francesas «.
L’Équipe informó que Nairo Quintana fue el objetivo del allanamiento, que fue llevado a cabo por agentes de la Oficina Central de Lucha contra los Daños Ambientales y de Salud Pública (OCLAESP). Al parecer, la búsqueda no se organizó en cooperación con la agencia antidopaje francesa (AFLD).
Según L’Équipe, la policía también registró las habitaciones de los ciclistas colombianos Dayer Quintana y Winner Anacona, así como los soigneurs del equipo y los autos del equipo. Arkéa-Samsic se quedaba cerca de Méribel, después de la etapa 17 hasta el Col de la Loze.
Quintana y los demás ciclistas colombianos se unieron a Arkéa-Samsic de cara a la temporada 2020 tras siete años con Movistar. Se estrelló nuevamente en la etapa 13 del Tour y su desafío al podio se derrumbó en el Grand Colombier dos días después.
Quintana llegó a París en el puesto 17 de la general, su resultado más bajo en un Gran Vuelta desde la Vuelta a España de 2012.
French police have opened a preliminary investigation with a suspicion of doping in a “small part” of the Arkéa-Samsic team at this year’s Tour de France, according to the French AFP news agency.
The Marseille prosecutor’s office confirmed the formal opening of the investigation to AFP on Monday, as riders and team travelled home from the three-week race, where Tadej Pogačar snatched overall victory from fellow Slovenian Primož Roglič in Saturday’s final time trial stage.
AFP said the investigation was opened by the police public health department, with prosecutor Dominique Laurens, referring to the «discovery of many health products including drugs (…) and especially a method that could be qualified as doping.» READ MORE

A further update via AFP said two people have been taken into preliminary custody or “Gardes à vue” on Monday morning. According to the Le Parisien, the two were a team doctor and soigneur, adding that «100ml of saline and injection equipment» were discovered during the searches. Le Parisien also reported that Nairo Quintana and Dayer Quintana were questioned.
Laurens talked of illegally prescribed medicines, saying the investigation had been opened into those “responsible for the administration and prescription to an athlete without medical justification of a substance or method prohibited within the framework of a sports event, aid in the use and incitement to the use of a substance or method prohibited to athletes, the transport and possession of a prohibited substance or method for the purpose of use by an athlete without medical justification.”
French police searched hotel rooms occupied by Arkéa-Samsic last Wednesday during the Tour de France, according to reports in Le Journal du Dimanche and L’Équipe.
Arkéa-Samsic team manager Emmanuel Hubert confirmed that the search had taken place when contacted by L’Équipe, but he declined to comment further. On Monday night, the UCI released the following statement about the investigation:
«The UCI confirms that it has been in communication with OCLAESP and the Cycling Antidoping Foundation (CADF) as part of the legal operations carried out by the French authorities on the sidelines of the Tour de France. The UCI welcomes and supports the action of all parties involved and will take the appropriate measures once it has taken note of the information obtained by the French legal authorities.»
L’Équipe reported that Nairo Quintana was the target of the raid, which was carried out by officers from the Central Office for Combating Environmental and Public Health Damage (OCLAESP). The search was apparently not organised in cooperation with the French anti-doping agency (AFLD).
According to L’Équipe, police also searched the rooms of Colombian riders Dayer Quintana and Winner Anacona, as well the team’s soigneurs and the team cars. Arkéa-Samsic were staying near Méribel, after stage 17 to the Col de la Loze.
Quintana and the other Colombian riders joined Arkéa-Samsic ahead of the 2020 season after seven years with Movistar. He crashed again on stage 13 of the Tour and his podium challenge collapsed on the Grand Colombier two days later.
Quintana reached Paris in 17th place overall, his lowest finish in a Grand Tour since the 2012 Vuelta a España.
