SAN ANTONIO – Saúl «Canelo» Álvarez superó unánimemente por puntos al previamente invicto Callum Smith para ganar el campeonato de peso súper mediano de la AMB y el ring y el título vacante de peso súper mediano del CMB el sábado por la noche en el Alamodome.
Álvarez (54-1-2, 36 KOs) dominó su única pelea este año, golpeando repetidamente a Smith (27-1, 19 KOs) con derechos seguidos y ganchos de derecha a la cabeza en 12 asaltos.
Dos jueces anotaron el combate 119-109 y el tercero lo hizo 117-111. Con 5 pies 8 pulgadas, Álvarez fue el agresor contra Smith de 6 pies 3 pulgadas. Álvarez previamente noqueó al hermano mayor de Callum, Liam, el 17 de septiembre de 2106 en el AT&T Stadium de Arlington. Muchos especularon que Callum quería vengarse del nocaut en el noveno asalto, pero Álvarez también dominó al joven Smith.

Alvarez (54-1-2, 36 KOs) dominated his only bout this year, repeatedly hitting Smith (27-1, 19 KOs) with straight rights and right hooks to the head over 12 rounds.
Two judges scored the bout 119-109 and the third had it 117-111.
At 5-foot-8, Alvarez was the aggressor against the 6-foot-3 Smith.
Alvarez previously knocked out Callum’s older brother, Liam, on Sept. 17, 2106, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Many speculated Callum wanted revenge for the ninth-round knockout, but Alvarez dominated the younger Smith as well.
