ROME, Italy – Former champion Maria Sharapova booked her place in the quarterfinals of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia with a straightforward win over Bojana Jovanovski on Thursday afternoon.
Shortly after the news that Serena Williams was withdrawing from the tournament with an elbow injury filtered through, Sharapova saw off Jovanovski, 6-3, 6-3, to move a step closer to reclaiming the title she won in 2011 and 2012.
