ROME, Italy – Maria Sharapova got revenge on Daria Gavrilova to not only reach the Internazionali BNL d’Italia final, but to make a big, big move up the WTA Rankings just in time for the French Open.
Gavrilova had beaten Sharapova in the pair’s only previous meeting, in Miami earlier this year….
But the No.3-seeded Sharapova wouldn’t have any of it this time, reeling off five games in a row from there to close out her young countrywoman in straight sets after an hour and 48 minutes, 7-5, 6-3.
