PARIS, France – An inspired Victoria Azarenka put Serena Williams’ Grand Slam winning streak under serious threat at Roland Garros on Saturday night, but there’s a reason Williams has 19 Grand Slam titles and the No.1 ranking – she just never stopped fighting, and at the end of the day she got the win.

With her trademark combination of aggression and consistency, Azarenka gave Williams all kinds of trouble for the first half of the match, taking the first set, 6-3, then breaking early en route to leads of 3-1 and 4-2 in the second. It looked like Williams’ 16-match Grand Slam winning streak was about to end.

But Williams only got more determined from there, starting to hit the mark more and more on her serves and ripping her huge groundstrokes harder and harder. She reeled off four games in a row to take that second set, 6-4, and after losing the first two games of the third she reeled off another six.

The No.1-seeded Williams rifled one last forehand to beat the No.27-seeded Azarenka, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
