RALEIGH, N.C. — Connor Brickley’s first NHL goal broke open a tie game in the third period, and the Florida Panthers defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1 at PNC Arena on Tuesday.

Al Montoya, making his first start of the season, made 22 saves for the Panthers (2-1-0).

Brickley drove the net to score on the rebound of Dmitry Kulikov’s backhand centering pass from the right-side boards at 12:18. Aleksander Barkov scored 50 seconds later after Jaromir Jagr’s shot trickled through the pads of Carolina goalie Eddie Lack, who made 26 saves in his first game with the Hurricanes after being acquired in a June 27 with the Vancouver Canucks.
