BUFFALO — Corban Knight, Derek MacKenzie and Jonathan Huberdeau had a goal and an assist each to help the Florida Panthers defeat the Buffalo Sabres 5-1 at First Niagara Center on Tuesday, their franchise record 10th straight win.
Knight gave the Panthers a 3-1 lead 5:35 into the third period. Quinton Howden picked up the puck from Dmitry Kulikov and made a backhand pass in front of the net to Knight, who was alone and put a wrist shot past Sabres goalie Linus Ullmark for his second goal of the season.
Huberdeau made it 4-1 with a breakaway goal with 3:54 left in the third. Huberdeau received a pass from Aleksander Barkov and broke in alone against Ullmark. Huberdeau deked and tucked the puck past Ullmark for his fifth goal of the season. Brandon Pirri scored an empty-net goal with 1:21 left, his ninth of the season.
The Panthers (24-12-4) have won 16 of the past 19 games. The Sabres (15-21-4) have lost five straight games and six of the past seven.
