World No. 1 Novak Djokovic fended off a late fightback from Philipp Kohlschreiber to book his place in the BNP Paribas Open fourth round with a 7-5, 7-5 victory on Tuesday night at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
The 28-year-old Djokovic goes on to face the only man to have beaten him all year – Feliciano Lopez – on Wednesday for a spot in the quarterfinals. Lopez scored a rare win over Djokovic in the Dubai quarterfinals last month, when the Serb retired with an eye problem after losing the first set.

Rafael Nadal narrowly avoided a third set as he defeated Fernando Verdasco 6-0, 7-6(9) on Tuesday to reach the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
The fourth-seeded Spaniard saved five set points as he rallied from a 6-3 deficit in the tie-break, claiming victory on his second match point after one hour and 41 minutes. Nadal had stormed through the first set against his doubles partner, losing just six points on serve, before Verdasco found his footing.
The 29-year-old Nadal is looking to win the title at this ATP World Tour Masters 1000 hard-court tournament for the fourth time, having lifted the trophy in 2007, 2009 and 2013. He also finished runner-up in 2011.
Next up for Nadal will be a first-time battle with #NextGen star Alexander Zverev, who is making strides in the desert after dismissing seasoned pro Gilles Simon 6-2, 6-2 earlier in the day.
