Two minutes later it was 2-0 as Hugo Lloris brought down Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundgogan dispatched the penalty.
Spurs halved the deficit three minutes before the break. Harry Kane played in Christian Eriksen and Aymeric Laporte’s tackle ricocheted off the Dane into the net.
City withstood more Spurs pressure to score next on 72 minutes. Shortly after missing a glorious chance, Sterling pounced on Lloris’s save of a Jesus shot.
City move 16 points clear of Manchester United and will be crowned champions if United drop more than two points at home to West Bromwich Albion on Sunday or at AFC Bournemouth on Wednesday.
Otherwise, a win at home to Swansea City next Sunday will guarantee City the title.
Spurs remain fourth but the gap above Chelsea has closed to seven points.

Tottenham redujo diferencias antes del descanso cuando Kane habilito a Cristian Ericksen para el descuento a los 42 minutos, 1-2 la cuenta y al descanso.
City confirmo la Victoria a los 72 minutos con gol de Raheem Sterling, poco despues de Lloris lo evitara a Jesus. con el 1-3 Manchester City queda a 16 puntos del segundo Manchester United y podria asegurar el titulo si los de Mourinho pierden 2 puntos en el partido ante el colero West Bromwich el domingo.
De lo contrario una victoria el domingo en casa ante Swansea City les dará el titulo a los de Guardiola.
Tottenham mantiene el cuarto lugar con 7 puntos de ventaja sobre Chelsea.
