Atlanta United finally earned their first win over the New York Red Bulls, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
Josef Martinez and Franco Escobar scored on either side of halftime, and Hector Villalba added a third in second-half-stoppage time, as the Five Stripes grabbed a well-earned 3-0 victory in the first leg of the Eastern Conference Championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The win gives Atlanta a strong advantage heading into the second leg of the series against the Supporters’ Shield winners, which is set to take place at Red Bull Arena on Thursday.

Coming off a ton of fireworks in the Conference Semifinals, both the Portland Timbers and Sporting Kansas City came into Leg 1 of the Western Conference Championship searching for a leg up in their Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoff series.
Neither team was able to gain that advantage as the match finished scoreless at Providence Park on Sunday night. The Timbers found the post and saw a goal disallowed due to offside but could not find a goal at home.
