With the NHL season a month old, USA TODAY Sports looks at the league’s all-rookie team:

Goalie: Jake Allen (St. Louis Blues): 3-1-0 with 1.00 goals-against average and .959 save percentage. He is certainly a threat to steal the net from Brian Elliott this season.

Defenseman: Aaron Ekblad (Florida Panthers): With poise and effectiveness, he has shown why he was the No. 1 pick in the draft. He is more polished defensively than youngsters usually are.

Defenseman: Damon Severson (New Jersey Devils): Playing 22:04 a game, Severson is essentially the No. 2 defenseman in New Jersey already. He’s second on the team in scoring with four goals and four assists for eight points.

Forward: Tanner Pearson (Los Angeles Kings): We saw what he could do last spring when he was a regular in the Kings’ Stanley Cup run. But he is still technically a rookie, and he leads all rookies with seven goals. He is on a 44-goal pace.

Forward: Filip Forsberg (Nashville Predators): He is the leading scorer on a team that has surprised with its strong play. He has four goals, eight assists and a plus-minus rating of 14.

Forward: Johnny Gaudreau (Flames): With his ability to zip through defensive seams, he is the NHL’s most dynamic rookie. With his ability to dart through traffic and release shots quickly, he can bring fans out of their seats.
