Top seed Simona Halep has clinched her second WTA Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships trophy with a thrilling 3-6 6-3 7-6(5) triumph over Elena Rybakina.
The 2015 champion marked the 20th Anniversary of the WTA Tour in Dubai with her 20th career title in the year 2020 courtesy of a two-hours and 27 minutes thriller.
“It’s crazy emotions to be honest,” declared an elated but exhausted Halep. “It’s pretty special… I really want to congratulate my opponent Elena, she played really, really well. She’s so young so she has many years ahead to play at the highest level so good luck and well done for this beautiful tournament that you played.
“I gave everything I had, actually I’m pretty dead,” quipped the Wimbledon champion. “I really wanted this title again as I love playing here so much. You just have to fight for every ball – which I did. I’m really proud of this week.”
