Steven Naismith proved Chelsea’s tormentor once again as the Scot stepped off the bench to net a perfect hat-trick and consigned Jose Mourinho’s champions to a comprehensive defeat at Goodison Park.
Almost two years ago to the day, Naismith grabbed the only goal against the Londoners on the same ground to give Roberto Martinez his first win as Everton boss.
Here, the former Rangers man came on in place of the injury-stricken Muhamed Besic with just nine minutes played and grabbed a quick-fire double – his fourth and fifth goals for Everton in all games against Chelsea – before Nemanja Matic pulled one back with a thunderous 36th-minute strike.
