Novak Djokovic, the beneficiary of three retirements in five matches, had not been tested in a unique path to the semifinals.
The Serb’s patience and game, though, were tested by the confounding play of Gael Monfils, whose tennis alternated between excellent and abysmal for most of the match. Djokovic, the top seed and two-time US Open champion, advanced to his seventh final here, besting Monfils, 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, in a puzzling men’s semifinal.
On one of the hottest and most humid days of the Open so far, with near-record temperatures on court, both players struggled physically and were visited by the trainer for a variety of ailments. Monfils left the court for a medical timeout midway through the fourth set while Djokovic had both his right and left shoulders massaged.

En uno de los días mas húmedos en la historia del torneo, con cerca de temperaturas records en la cancha, los dos jugadores se vieron exhaustos y fueron visitados por sus entrenadores con variedad de alimentos. Monfisl dejo la cancha en un tiempo pedido para asistencia medica a mediados del cuarto set, mientras que Djokovic tuvo que recibir masajes en sus dos hombros.
Djokovic espera por el ganador de la otra semifinal que disputan los preclasificados 3 y 6…el Suizo Stan Wawrinka y el Japones Kei Nishikori.
