La Alemana Laura Siegemund enloqueció a su público local al ganar el segundo y más grande título de su carrera en el Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, superando a la francesa Kristina Mladenovic, 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (5).
Siegemund primero llego a la final de Stuttgart hace 12 meses como una jugador calificada, y estaba entre el último escalon en el sorteo principal este año, ganando un comodín. Una vez allí, la veterana alemana continuó su hábito de eliminar a la Top 10 de la clasificación en Stuttgart, eliminando a otras tres esta semana Svetlana Kuznetsova, Karolina Pliskova y Simona Halep en camino a su segunda final consecutiva.
En la otra mitad del sorteo fue Mladenovic, quien ganó suficientes partidos de calidad para enviar a la eliminar a la cabeza de serie, Angelique Kerber, Carla Suárez Navarro, y la triple campeona Maria Sharapova y asi reservar su segunda final de la temporada después de ganar el Título en el St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy.
La victoria la devolverá al Top 30 – tres puntos menos del mas alto rango en su carrera- mientras que la subcampeóna Mladenovic sube al número 7 en la Porsche Race a la clasificación de Singapur.
STUTTGART, Germany – German wildcard Laura Siegemund thrilled her home crowd by winning the second and biggest title of her career at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, outlasting French youngster Kristina Mladenovic, 6-1, 2-6, 7-6(5).
Siegemund first made the Stuttgart final 12 months ago as a qualifier, and was among the last into the main draw this year, earning a wildcard. Once there, the German veteran continued her habit of eliminating Top 10 opposition in Stuttgart, knocking out another three this week in Svetlana Kuznetsova, Karolina Pliskova, and Simona Halep en route to her second straight final.
On the other half of the draw was Mladenovic, who earned quite a few quality wins of her own to dispatch top seed Angelique Kerber, Carla Suárez Navarro, and three-time champion Maria Sharapova to book her second final of the season after winning her maiden title at the St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy.
The win will return her to the Top 30 – three spots shy of her career-high ranking – while runner-up Mladenovic moves up to No.7 on the Porsche Race to Singapore leaderboard.
