It was a parade of stars Friday onto the leader board in the second round of the 82nd Masters Tournament, with eight major champions charging into the top 10. But the game’s most heralded star, Tiger Woods, never got into line.
Instead, Woods sputtered with his iron game, shot 3-over 75 and plunged deep into the standings. At 4-over 148, the four-time Masters champion is tied for 40th, 13 strokes behind Patrick Reed and facing the largest 36-hole deficit he has faced in 19 professional starts at Augusta National.
The fact that he’s made the cut for a 19th straight time was a consolation that made Woods chuckle, then reach as far as he could for that silver lining.
