On Friday, Williams withdrew from the tournament citing swelling in her left knee. Williams was seen favoring the tape-covered knee during her hour and a half long match last night.
The nagging knee injury kept Serena Williams from playing at peak performance last night in her third round victory over Lucie Safarova.
“It throbs just sitting, standing. I felt it mostly serving because I’m landing on my left knee. That was really killer for me,” Williams said in her press conference.
The severity of Williams’ injury is yet to be known, but she intends on returning to Europe for evaluation by her doctors.
“I’m going to go back to Europe to deal with my knee. I see a good doctor there that I like.”
